Happiness

Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.v2

Psalm 103:1-5

An old man had to move into an Old Age Home. As the matron walked him to his new room she said that unfortunately the room wasn’t big and didn’t have a view, and the furniture was rather plain and simple.

“That’s OK, I like it very much”, he said, with the enthusiasm of a child who had just been given a new puppy.

“Sir,” the matron said, “You haven’t seen the room yet!”

“That has nothing to do with it,” he said. “Happiness is something I choose in advance. Whether I like the room or not does not depend on the furniture or the view. It depends on how I decide to see it. I have already decided in my mind that I like my new room.

It is a decision I make each morning when I wake up. I can choose. I can spend my day in bed, grieving over all the parts of my body that no longer function very well, or I can get up and give thanks to God for those parts that are still in working order. Every day is a gift, and as long as I can open my eyes I will focus positively and give thanks to God for all my blessings.”

Life is like a bank-account. You withdraw in later life what you have put in along the way. If you deposit negative thoughts and attitudes you will reap a negative return. If you choose to be happy and thankful, and deposit positive things, you will reap a positive harvest. So it is wise to be thankful, and deposit all the happiness you can in your bank account of memories.

Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.
