Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors and prayed for daylight. v29
Acts 27:27-29
Paul was being taken to Rome to stand trial before Caesar when the ship they were travelling in was caught in a terrible storm. For fourteen days and nights, they couldn’t see the sun and didn’t know where they were. Eventually there were signs that they might be near land. Scared they would be shipwrecked, they dropped four anchors and prayed for daylight.
Often when the storms and tsunamis of life hit us and we feel we are going to be swamped, all we can do is throw out our anchors and pray for daylight to come.Yet this raises an important question. What are our anchors? What can we do to ensure our anchors will hold in the storm? Can I suggest two that will save us when tough times come?
The first is to make sure our relationships are strong, and to invest heavily in love, and caring for the important people in our lives. These are the people we can hold on to in such times and who will keep us from drowning.
The second is our faith – to make sure we do things that will make our faith strong, and that there is oil in our lamp. Often it is only by keeping our hand in the hand of God that we come through these things in one piece.
What are the anchors in your life? How strong are they? What do you need to do to ensure they are firm? Pray about this.
These three things last forever, faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love.
Paul
