Description
No person, apart from Jesus Himself, helped shape Christian theology and the early history of Christianity like the apostle Paul.
Initially he was radically opposed to the Jesus movement. Then the risen Jesus appeared to him personally on the Damascus road, and from then on, Jesus became the absolute centre of Paul’s life and faith.
‘For to me, to live in Christ, and to die is gain.’ (Philippians 1:21)
His deep knowledge of the Jewish Scriptures enabled him, in a unique way, to understand how the prophecies of the Old Testament, had come to fulfillment in Jesus.
Also, he more than anyone, prevented the Church from turning in on itself, and ensured that the good news of Jesus Christ went out beyond the narrow confines of Jewish thinking, to include the Gentiles.
This book does not attempt a commentary on Paul’s letters individually, rather it seeks to give a overview of the man, his life and his theology.
